Below you will learn how flavored coffee is made, if it is natural or manmade, and some of the different flavors offered. With all the new drinks available you will be surprised to see just how these wonderful beans are created.
The most important thing when wanting to flavor a bean is choosing the right kind. Some are perfect the way they are and have their own natural flavor. Out of the eight hundred different compounds in beans scientists have found the best for flavoring are the ones with low levels of bitterness and acidity.
The Arabica is the bean of choice, most come from South America and are mild in flavor. The oil that it used to add the flavoring can be either natural or synthetic, natural may be extracted from real vanilla, berries, cocoa, and different nuts.
Synthetic oils used for flavoring coffee are made by professional chemists who have studied ways to make chemicals that have a taste people enjoy. Some examples are blueberry pie, banana split, or black forest cake.
To make the flavored drink first the normal process of hulling the raw beans is performed by a machine, next the roasting process begins. The temperature of the oven is the determining factor in the flavor, the higher temperature the darker the roast.
After the roast is complete a cooling process must begin before any flavoring is added. When you buy a gourmet drink you can be sure that the beans were dried by warm air, not by water which is the traditional way of cooling.
The oil is than added by using a mixer to tumble the beans with the flavoring. Only small drops are added at a time, after this the beans can be packaged whole or ground, and shipped. This is how flavored coffee is made, it is amazing how much goes into that wonderful hot drink that we love so much.
