Coffee is now regarded as being the third most popular drink in the entire world behind water and tea which does mean millions of cups of it are consumed on a daily basis. This is quite impressive considering its humble beginnings in Africa several hundred years ago due to the time it took to spread to various countries.

The beans are grown in over seventy countries which have the climate seen as having the best growing conditions available for the plant. Out of these countries it was noted that coffee was the biggest agricultural export for them which just lets you see how important a role it plays right from the growing to the consumption.

A lot of these countries are seen as being third world and this has led to the rise of Fairtrade where they make sure that the farmer gets a much better price for his hard work than he would have otherwise got from other sources. This part in itself is a multi million dollar industry and it still only accounts for a small section of the money made from these beans each and every year.

The drinking of it has become a very social event with it being used as the reason for getting together with friends and family in order to discuss what is going on. This in turn has helped major global companies to open up numerous cafes in various countries in order to accommodate the desire to just meet up for a coffee .

So while it may never overtake tea or indeed water as being the most popular drink on the planet it is fair to say that nothing else should be able to usurp it from third position of the most popular drinks. coffee is now part of our society and our love of caffeine shall ensure that it stays that way as long as that love exists.
