It is fair to say that in relatively recent times there has been a real rise in the popularity of coffee . It can perhaps be put down to the explosion of chains across the world meaning there are now coffee shops in most towns and cities in the western world.
The drink itself has quite humble beginnings with its origins in the north east of Africa and spreading into Arabia. The drink itself is quite ancient but it only started to spread along trade routes and via explorers a few hundred years ago.
The drink comes from the bean and the countries that grow it are all based within the tropics of Capricorn and Cancer. In many countries it is their single biggest export with vast quantities being bought and sold every single day.
A quick look at the menu in one of these cafes lets you see the vast array of drinks you can buy just from this bean. This itself is a big development from the days where your only option was whether you wanted it black or white.
This has now meant that it is challenging tea as the number one hot drink in the world and it should be fair to say that it could easily surpass it. This is in part due to the fact that the price is still quite low for a drink which is in part due to where the beans originate and the lower cost of living there.
So coffee has developed beyond all recognition in recent times and it has become quite trendy to be seen drinking it in its many forms. A huge number of people drink it every single day and with more of these chains of cafes opening up all over the place it is fair to say that the drink is here to stay.
