Gaggia accessories: the cream of the crema

If you're dedicated to making the perfect espresso at home, then there is a range of Gaggia accessories to help you.

The main difference between the coffee bar you buy from and your coffee making equipment at home - apart from the fact that the size of the Gaggia coffee machine - will probably be that the barista in your local coffee bar has a range of accessories to help them make the perfect cup.

Fresh beans essential

Freshly roasted beans are essential for making a perfect espresso. This makes a good Gaggia grinder essential to keep the flavour of whatever blend you choose; but many people also choose some kind of vacuum pack to keep whole beans in. Gaggia make a vacuum coffee saver which will keep beans fresh until they are used.

Measure life in coffee spoons

Measuring the right amount of coffee is crucial to making the best cup, even if you're using a Gaggia espresso machine. Get it wrong and your espresso can be too thin or too bitter. Gaggia make a stylish metal tamper for pressing down and levelling off the ground coffee in the filter basket.

Purists use scales accurate to up to 0.01 of a milligram to measure out their coffee - and who says they're wrong to do so?

Gaggia Barista-style knockout drawer

You'll have seen your local professional barista knocking out the used grounds of coffee in a drawer before making the next shot. Gaggia have products that allow you to recreate the barista knock-out in your own home.

Both the Gaggia plastic base unit and Gaggia stainless steel base unit come equipped with a knockout drawer.

Secrets of the cappuccino

A good cappuccino should be made with frothed milk at about 70-75 degrees Celsius - although it is a personal preference, and if you want it hotter or cooler then that's up to you. A Gaggia espresso maker should serve it up at the prescribed temperature - but Gaggia also make a thermometer so you can judge for yourself and serve it how you like it.

While making that cappuccino, you'll need a jug to froth the milk in - again, just like the pros. Gaggia's attractively designed "G" jug and shaker are ideal for making both cappuccinos and lattes.
